Need Help- Cold Temp Check Engine
My wife has a 2003 VW Passat 6 cylinder AWD and she has had an ongoing problem that our local mechanic has been stumped with. The engine has been running cold and the check engine light has remained on. The mechanic has replaced the thermostat, temp sensor and water pump but these replacements have not solved the problem. For a while the engine remained cold all the time, now it takes 15-20 minutes of driving to get the temp to the right place.. but the check engine light remains on.
We live in an area with no authorized VW service and our mechanic does not get tech support from VW. My wife's past attmpts at contacting VW tech report were useless. They told her to take it to an authorized mechanic...closest one for us is 4 hours away!
Our mechanic and oursleves are at a loss to what we should do.
Any feedback regarding this problem would be greatly appreciated.

reverse flush your coolant system, heater core might be plugged. Download the engine code with a OBD2 reader, and it will tell you what code, and most likely a fix will come off of that
