Failed Intake Manifold
My son has a 2013 VW CC Lux with the 3.6, 6-cyl engine. The car has about 120,000 miles. He lives in Florida while I am in NY and so I'm trying to assist with his engine problem from a distance. Apparently the N80 purge valve stuck and when it released suddenly, it blew the intake manifold apart. He has been quoted a total of almost $3900 for a repair. I have a fair amount of shade tree mechanic experience, but I've never heard of a failure mode such as this. Is it plausible and if so, is the pricing fair? I would think that a failed or stuck valve would cause an illuminated check engine light, but he is unable to confirm. I'll appreciate any advice offered.
Thanks
