Default Brake Repair Question

I'm having work done to the car which includes half shafts & new front & rear brake pads. Mechanic is also recomending new front brake calipers which cost about $500 for both. He said it's "typical" of this model needing them.

Car is a 2003 Passat with only 53k on it.

Am I being shafted (pun intended) on the caliper replacement?

Thanks in advance.

Default RE: Brake Repair Question

I have a 2000 VR6 and my calipers are fine. If they are working then it's fine. I don't believe in preventative maintenance unless I know it will need to be done within a month and I have the money now. Don't get calipers, if they are working don't worry about it right now
