B4 inner CV removal

B4 inner CV removal
Is the Haynes correct, or lying, when it tells me I need a hydraulic press to remove the inner CVs from the driveshafts?
The joints are still splined on, and are supplied with the usual cup-washer and a circlip (checked at friendly parts factor!) so I can't get why they should need pressing on/off.
I desperately need to change the gaiters on the inners, and though the n/s could be done from the outer end, the o/s has a step up in the diameter of the driveshaft, so unless I could get the most flexible gaiter ever, I can't see that it'd go over.
Cheers.
