Default 2004 Passat 4motion trans problem

Hello All! I am new to a VW and this forum. Have a 2004 Passat with trans issues. When put into drive it sometimes won't start rolling, so I put it into triptronic, get it rolling then I can shift the gears in triptronic and it seems to be ok. I thought it might be low on trans fluid, so jacked it up, cracked the Fill Plug and trans fluid gushed out! Any thoughts? Gonna do a trans fluid, filter and gasket change, clean the magnets and pan, just wondering if anyone has any advice. Oh it has 157,000 on odometer, don't know if its ever been changed before. Thanks folks!

Gearbox level filler plugs, oil doesn't gush out unless the breather is blocked. Which auto box do you have? I would guess a 2004 Passat is a 5 speed auto 5A.

Manufacturer: VW, Date(s) Used: 05/2002-05/2005, Model: Passat/Variant/4Motion, Transmission Code: FEV, Transmission Type: 5A

Its a breather that's fitted gearboxes, separate final drives . I allows air to escape as the unit gets hot with use, it saves oil blowing out of seals. I'm not sure where the breather is on a 5A without searching ElsaWin.
