Is the Transmission Shot? NEED HELP!
Hello!
Desperately need help for my little sister! She drives a 2001 Jetta. Last night she got stuck trying to pull into the driveway during a bad snowstorm - TONS of snow especially at the end of the driveway because of the plowing. After several failed attempts suddenly her tires stopped spinning. So when you push in the gas the tires do not even try to move. Is it the transmission? If not, what could it be? Anyone know how much something like this will cost her?
Thanks for any help!!!!

RE: Is the Transmission Shot? NEED HELP!
Not enough info to give suggestions, does it make a clunk
noise while doing this, or is it quite, if it's quite and the
wheels arn't moving, my guess is the transmission went out
and yes it will cost , it also could be a drive axle out of it's
socket in the tranny, If it clunks it could be a CV joint bad.
Need a lot more info.

It's possible she could have blown a CV saft at one point of time when trying to get out. Look underneath the car and you'll be able to spot CV boots almost immediately. It's a rubber boot behind the wheel. Check for obvious signs of tear and such.
You should be able to check the tranny fluid. Check for burns. Good tranny oil should be pink-ish red in color. If it looks like spent motor oil, you may have transmission problems.
