Question Torn CV boot??? Please advise...

I took my 02' Jetta to a mechanic and he told me that my Left CV boot was torn at the very top, yet no grease got out and no sand got in. He told me I would eventually need to replace the axle shaft and it would cost around $300. He told me that it didn't need to be done immediately and I could drive it for a while. I haven't noticed any clicking noises or anything out of the ordinary and my car is running fine. My question is, when should I replace this and how long could I go without replacing it? Any advice would really help. Thanks!

I would go until I heard a clicking noise every time I turn. You really dont need to rush this too fast, but at the same time, dont wait too long. My friend waited too long on her Subaru and the whole axel broke. The speedometer would say that you were going 90mph and you would really be going like 15 mph.

Anyway, the point is, take your time to shop for the cheapest parts, but dont let it get out of control.
