Default Sticky Waste Gate?

Hey guys,

Here it is...

2001 VW Jetta Wolfberg Edition 1.8T

Twice now I've been driving along, put my foot into it and the car barely moves and you can hear the boost leaking out from under the hood.

Could the waste gate be sticking? Do you have any troubleshooting ideas?

Thanks
Murray

Is the engine light on? You must have an air leak or vacuum leak somewhere.

Here's the new developement. And I think I know what's going on now. I went for a drive after my last post. When it started acting up bad I got out and got the girlfriend to mash the throttle while I poked around under the hood. The leak is coming from the intercooler, blowing downwards. A few weeks ago someone backed into the car on that front corner. The body shop was supposed to have replaced the intercooler but I bet they just replaced a broken plastic or something. I will pull the front bumper today to confirm. I didn't suspect this since it's been solid up until this point.

If their insurance company paid for the repairs I wouldn't pull the bumper I'd just call the insurance company and tell them what's going on.

Solid advice, however we need the car for another road trip, and the insurance place won't be open on time.

So, it took it apart and found the clamp holding the hose to the output side of the intercooler was loose. I suppose I should have gotten dirty before I got on here asking questions. Lol.
