Default Stalling then not cranking

When i would hit a puddle in my 96 jetta, the engine would sputter then run fine. After a bad rain storm i hit a really big puddle and the car wont start at all. It will try to crank but just never fire, This was a month ago. Checked the coil and distributer....nothing. Anyone with ideas really appreciate it. ECU or something shorted out maybe?

I don't know where it is on your car but, I would check out the ignition control module.

Couldnt find it. The manual doesnt show all of the electrical in this car for example the ecu module or wiring for it. The fuel to the injectors, the spark plugs, distributor and wires I've checked. thanks, i guess if i cant find it soon I'll be hauling it to the mechanic.

if the control module is the same thing as the coil then it is on the firewall trace the center ignition wire on the distributor cap to the back right hand side of the engine bay and you should see something that looks like this. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/IGNIT...ayphotohosting
