Hello Forum.

I am seriously considering buying a Jetta, I love German cars, so far I've owned a fewold restored Mercedes Diesels and had a lot of good luck with them. When I was growing up, my parents always had a Jetta or a Fox. I found a2002 Jetta at a local car dealerthe other day,when, i was trying to decidewhat kind of car that I wanted, and wanted to keep for a lot of miles to come, when I found a white 2002 Jetta, with only 42,000 miles on it and I fell in love, I knew, thats what I have to have, a Jetta. My friend Roxanne owns a 2003 or 4 Passat with a Turbo Diesel, and that thing gets up and goes, but the Passat is a little too big for my taste, but it is a Volkswagen and I was quite impressed myself.

So what I want to know is, what you all would consider a good deal, and what kinds of things do I need to look out for when buying a Jetta, I dont want a new one, i dont really like the new style, but i like the style from 99 up.

I just bought my 02 jetta in last september. I bought if for 11 thousand. With 46 thousand miles on it. i would say that is a good price. What are the specs for it. Manual? Tip-Tron? disel? But i would say for that year and considering the miles anywhere between 11 and 14 thousand depending whats inside the vehicle.

this jetta is a 2002, it has 42,000 miles.its white, its not a TDI, its not a GLS, i'm pretty sure it has tiptronic, i believe it just has the regular 2.0L in it. and its $9995, the car is completely clean and georgous and runs and drives awsome and its on a used car lot with a lot of other nicer high end cars that arent junk.

 

Recently owned a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta GLS... I have the VW Jetta parts sport package with the cool-looking 17 in. wheels. This car corners unbelievable well.Also, the stick-shift works well with the turbo. I can smoke people from a dead start, but the engine really shines at highway speeds. Very often I downshift and go by people like they're standing still. I feel like I can place the car exactly where I want to be on the highway and I save a lot of time that way, especially in heavy traffic.The interior is also top-notch (except for the seat dials). I have the leather, sunroof, etc. I feel like it's a BMW. The Monsoon stereo is decent, but I wouldn't rave about it like others here have. I believe it has way too much treble sound and not much base at all, and I am not the type who likes to listen to booming base, I just find the Monsoon slightly week in this area.Overall, I have loved this car, only problem was with the coils and that problem was an easy fix. I would recommend the Jetta to anyone. Good luck!!!

 

shoughun, turn up your bass, turn down your treble and mid, and the monsoon will be fine. its the same system that they put in some bimmers...and most Audis. When looking for a jetta, just consider a few things, if you want the stock looking ones, or a newer(04 and up) GLI that has the VOTEX kit and the BBS RC's. Also, if you are planning on modding it performance-wise, look into what kind of power you are wanting to get out of it and what kind of money you want to spend on that. Other than that stuff specifically, its just like buying any other car. The price you mentioned I think is a little hgh..did you say it had a sunroof? if it did, its a GLS, if not its just a GL, which is fine, just no sunroof. I bet you could find a good 1.8t gls for that price, i bought my wolfy 2 years ago for 12,000. Granted, i got a hell of a deal, but still man, id look around a bit, but a jetta is definitely the way to go!

I got the VR6...the only that sux is that I have to start from scratch when forced induction. Bolt-ons are kinda the same but overall I think I did pretty good. The price wasn't too bad, but I know I could've done better. I paid, I think, 10,500 for the 2000 VR6 with 67,000 miles on it back in '05. Had some brand new OEm parts that would have cost me over $500 that's why I took it, plus I did the carfax report and it was was in perfect shape. Buying a Jetta depends on what you want it for. Racing get the turbo or VR6, just to have one get the 2.0. Watch the years too casue I know '01 and '03 had some bad electrical problmes, especially '03.

 

Also you should considerhow mechanically inclined you are. If something goes wrong are you willing to get a munual and get dirty, or are you willing to get raped by a VW mechanic. If it is not a turbo, and you want to forced induction you are going to pay, and pay dearly. I personally buy my wife a nice car that doesn't need anything for her and my 2 kids (another one on the way). I buy older cars and tinker with them cuz i just love that. 5000 and my 95 will be race ready. It wont be the fastest on the road but it will be the fastest i can make it, and i just love being elbow deep in a car. In any case Jettas Rule. VW rules!
