Default self adjusting clutch?

I've got a 1998 Jetta 2.0 5spd 107800 miles.

I recently replaced the transmission in my car with one from a 1998 Wolfsburg Edition. The secondary shaft needle bearing my my other one blew apart, and came right threw the case on the inside of the tranny. So I was told that this transmission has a shorter gear ratio (a more "sportier" transmission), is that correct? It has the tranny code DFQ.

Also, I installed the transmission approximatley one week ago, and when I took it out for it's maiden test drive the clutch grabbed rather high. Now, I'm back up at college, and I noticed the difference in the clutch. It grabs lower and theres about and inch worth of play in the peddle, where there was no play before. I called the Volkswagen dealer and they said that it's a self adjusting clutch cable. And I just wanted to make sure that a week sounded appropriate for the cable to find its place.

When I took the transmission out, we had to pull a cable that's attached to the arm on the transmission. And, there's nothing hydraulic about my system at all, I don't see anything. Just a cable.
