I recently purchased a used 2005 Jetta - the stereo/CD is in "SAFE" mode - the previous owner tried twice to reset the unit using the correct Security Code but somehow failed. Now the units shows "2" in front of the word "SAFE" and the manual says you have to power on the unit and leave it powered on for at least 1 hour. We tried several times to do that for as long as 4 hours and the "2" never disappears as it is supposed to do. We cannot therefore enter the Security Code. The dealer tells us we have to replace the entire stereo!

1) Does anyone know who the actual manufacturer of this stereo is?

2) Does anyone know how to reset this unit in another way?
