Potential VW owner.

Potential VW owner.
What's up everyone? My name is Patrick and I just have a couple of questions about the Jetta because I'm thinking about buying one.
I found an 04 Jetta GLI 1.8t 6spd at a local dealership asking $15,977. It's got 44,000 on the clock and it's the grey metallic exterior with charcoal interior. I'm in the market for a sporty 4 door and I'm really considering going in on it because it's a beautiful car in prime condition and it seems like a really good deal. Does that price seem kind of low?
Now...being mainly a Lexus guy I don't really know a whole lot about VWs.
What are some specific problems to look for before buying? (jetta specific)
Any major recalls?
Reliable?
Basically, I just want to cover my bases before spending 15gs. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys.

As far as the recalls, talk to the but there are some posted on here under recalls. I haven't found t oo many problems, but some otheres are different. Timing belt is prolly the biggest thing to wathc out for. Other than that, talk to someone who has that year make and model.
