Default PCV Valve

I went to put some oil on my old beast(97 VW 2.0) and noticed some gunky white/yellow residue in the oil manifold. I checked the hose that goes to PCV valve and that was also pretty much clogged with the same gunk. I'm assuming it's the PCV valve itself, right? I called napa and other auto parts stores and they told me the dealer is the only place that sells them. So my question is is that true? Anywhere else you could get them cheaper? Or is it even the PCV valve? I searched and it sounds like other people have had the same problem. Any advice/help/ridicule would be great, thanks!

Default RE: PCV Valve

I am new to VW, but i have learned very quickly, when stuff goes wrong, there is no saving money. LOL. Instead of a dealership, find a VW specific mechanic small town guy ya know, i did, and after befriending him, he gets parts for me at cost wich is awsome, but still expensive.
