Default P1582 (idle adaption at limit) trouble code

MY friend has a '97 Jetta, 2.0l. I scanned his car because it had a check engine light and the P1582 (idle adaption at limit) fault code came up. So I took the throttle body off, cleaned it and put it back on. I started the car, cleared the code. After the car was started again, the code came back on, and the car's idle now fluxuates up and down at startup and when in neutral, which didn'toccurr before I took TB off and reinstalled it. Is there a computer procedure that needs to be done, like a remap of the throttlebody, or no. Im used to working on older mopars, not newer VW's so if anyone can help, I'D appreciate it.
