Hi!
I own a 92 jetta 1.8L automatic purchased a couple monts ago with 220.000 clics on it.I realized that in only 1300Km it burns ...3L..of oil.I changed the oil (5w40), and added a duralube and same situation. Curiously, not remove smoke on exhaust system and no leaks. No one here was able to give me any explanation, just one has said that duralube disolved the oil in such a way that the oil was evaporated.
I will apeciate if anyone can give me an advice.

Did you say it is smoking? If so, more than likely you have oil coming through your cylinders or your valve seals. You need to do a compression test and a cylinder leak down test.

 

No, there is no smoke.This is curious.

 

I take it no pools of oil under the car. I don't think youcan burn that much oil without there being smoke but, I don't think there could be any other explanation for using that much oil. I'd go forward with those tests I mentioned and keep me informed. It is curious.

 

i cant really think of anything other than what racer said, it would either be leaking into the cylinder, or onto the ground, i would suggest an oil pressure test but you most likely have to take the bumber off to do that cause thats what you would have to do on my 03 jetta gli

 

I once had a Pontiac grand am that blew 3 of 4 piston rings. It was not burning a noticeable amount of oil, the smoke was not white or even noticeable coming out of the tail pipe. however I had to keep adding oil to it and I didn't know where it was all going. When I cracked it open i noticed a slow drip from the air box, I opened up the air box and the bottom of the box had about a quart and a half of oil in there. This did however cause the engine to suffocate and erratically shut off. If you are loosing oil and it is not leaking its going somewhere as I found out. The back pressure from the o rings being blown forced oil through the throttle body up into the air box where it had a nice place to sit for a while until I cough it.
