Default no power

need help: when our 2001 jetta(gas) is running for a half hour or more, when we try to put it in gear, as soon as we touch the brake pedal the car dies, battery light comes on. Can't start if again for about an hour later. It doesn't sputter when it dies, no noise at all very quite and no warning.

Thanks for any suggestions:

Why you waiting so long to drive it? It just happens or did it have other symptoms before hand but the problem has evolved over time?? How old is the battery, is the alternator working?? It could be a lot of things but look at easy stuff first.

The problemjust started last Wednesday. Went out to get gas and as soon as I hit the brake pedal the motor died.IfI let the car sit for an hour it will start no problem, agaim ifI try to put in in drive or reverse it dies.It happened twice, so I parked it for the weekend. The battery is 2 years old and no other problem with any other parts yet. Thanks for the info.

Do you have a remote starter or alarmon it? Anyway to disable them if you do to check if they are causing it?

OK every year or 1 1/2 I change that battery, you turn in the old one you get some money back, and you never have to worry about corroding or your car dying on you. Plus you will know if ya got an alternator problem...ANYWAYS, disconnect the batteyr for about 30min, maybe an hour. After you reconnect it it should wipe all codes from your ECU and reset it, maybe there's a computer problem.
