I am tired of taking my 2000 jetta to the dealer for routine repairs like brakes, tune ups etc. too much money there. does anyone have any recommendations for a repair shop good with vw in the queens,ny area or maybe even long island?

I totally understand your frustrations with dealers. It's a money-maker, not a solution, hahaha...

Anyways, personally I don't know any, since I'm not from that area. Although, many repairs you can do yourself. Most answers or how-to's can be found on forums such as this one or general searches on your problem. Tools that you don't have can be rented from many major retail stores that deal in automotive. I don't even go to garages anymore, most repairs can be done at home in the driveway or home garage for 1/4 of the cost of bringing it to general repair centre.
