Default MK4 Jetta, Heater GONE

Hi guys,

I own a 2003 diesel jetta with 160K miles. Yesterday it was snowing...almost 2 ft of snow in 12h. I got into my car started her up, engine reached full temp and then...NO HEAT!

I know the foam on the mix door has a tendency to break or the heater core can be clogged but I use my car every day and it worked fine until yesterday. On Wednesday night heater was blowing very hot and on Thursday morning it's just cold air! And by cold I don't mean cool I mean COLD right from outside...

Things tend to wear out before they break, it happened so suddenly that I don't believe it's the blend door(also, there is no foam coming out of anywhere). Is there a sensor that can prevent the car from heating?

The temperature dial seems a little easier to turn than before, I'm going to remove the center console and foot wells to check the cable is still doing it's work and if there is a sensor to check as well i would like to know.

Also, my temp control dials are not illuminated at night. I don't think there's any relation but you never know until you know...

Hey,

I don't own a Diesel, but I do have a few gasoline MK4's with the 2.0 8v. I can tell you if it was the heater core there would be tell tale signs way before losing heat (e.g: burning coolant smell, or leaking coolant into cabin from in behind dash). The fact that it just stopped and the **** is easier to turn leads me to believe you should looks at the controls that direct coolant into the heater core.

Thanks for the info!
in fact I solved the problem a couple of days ago and i was waiting for warmer weather to permanently fix it and post a few pictures. There is a kind of lever that goes into the hvac unit and moves the blend door. The lever had just poped out of its bracket...it was a 10 min fix! I'm going to replace the lever later this week and put everything back in place hopefully i will be good for another 10 years haha.

Mk4 jetta do powerful performance on the market. It built by a new looks with a protected design. The engine management system is batter than his old car system and that's give a good mileage on the road.
