Default Loud clunk when tranny shifts?!

Hey guys, this is my first post here...never had problems with my Jetta.
But, just today, my tranny is shifting hard, with a loud clunk right at 35mph when going from 3rd to 4th? It doesn't do it every time, but has never happened before. The car has 101,000 and has been maintained well.
What things should I check first before getting too worried about a tranny rebuild or replacement?
Thanks in advance. Auto transmission 1.8T 01 Jetta

To minimize vibrations and unnecessary sound, transmission mount must be employed to securely keep the transmission components at their proper alignment settings. With seamless transmission mechanisms, your engine transmission noise is lessened by the mount with its rubber and steel construction..In your case your car might have worn out transmission mounts..check out this link for purchase of vw transmission mount.....
