Default Jetta V 2.5 5cyl Oil Change

I'm ready to change my oil and filter. The manual say's use synthetic based oil 5w-40 or 30.
I called the dealer and they say they use Castrol synthetic.
Do I really have to use synthetic ? Can I just use a high quality oil like Pennzoil or Quaker State.
I change oil and filter every 5000 mi. I cant see paying double or triple for synthetic but I will
if you guys/gals recommend it.
