Default Jetta Starter Problems

I have a 97 VW Jetta, 90K miles and have gone through four starters the past three months. My last starter was replaced by a reputable VW mechanic as opposed to a tire and general repair shop. The VW shop checked out all the electrical components and everything is fine. He thinks there may be something with the flywheel or transmission that is causing the damage. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Maybe the flywheel teeth are bad? chipped. This can mess up the connection between the starter and the flywheel thus stripping the teeth off the starter.

my 97 jetta runs good until it warms up,a mechanic and myself tried everything from fuel pump to cap, rotor, vacume lines. it hesitates after about 45 min,it dies out but starts runs like crap , what could be the problem.
