Default Jetta Brake Job

I was told (haven't looked myself) that in order to do a brake job on my wifes 2007 Jetta that you have to have a special tool or socket. I'm not sure what for but I'm guessing to remove the calipers or pads, etc... They said it cost like $90.00. Anyone know if this is true. Any help, experience would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Jorg

for a basic brake job, which is replacing pads, & maybe resurfacing rotors, the only special tool you might need that i can think of would be a breaker bar with proper sized socket to take off the rotors, and a piece used to push the caliper back out so the new pads will fit in - pic below. if you are doing shoes, calipers, and all that, then i could see needing more. i haven't done a brake job on a VW though.
