Default Have I been scammed?

I'm a new member, but am hoping someone can help me. My car was stuck in park (brake wasn't registering I stepping on it, wouldn't disengage from park). Took it to my regular Mom & Pop shop, they told me I needed a new SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID (a $500 repair). In desperate need of my car, I said go ahead with the repair. A couple weeks later, I'm stuck in park again. The shop now says its the BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH (a $45 repair). I am perterbed at this point, because I now come to find out that there was the big brake light switch recall, and feel the shop duped me. They said that one may have caused the other to break and cause the stuck in park issue, but I am not buying it. I am a nurse, not a mechanic and was hoping to hear if I should dispute the original shift lock solenoid repair, or if it is possible that the 2 could have been related. Any information is greatly appreciated and thanks for reading & take care.

Default RE: Have I been scammed?

Amy,
The way this usually works... and I stress usually because there are always snags here and there... is that if the exact part the shop replaced for you was actually under recall from VW, you would talk to the VW headquarters, or you can probably even go into any VW dealer with a service center and get the contact info, and send HQ copies of your receipts for the work performed at the other shop. They SHOULD... cover it completely. That's at least a good place to get the ball rolling. Let me know what happens.
