Default factory security

Is there a way to bypass the factory security system in a 2001 jetta. I have one that randomly will not read the chip in the key, the car will start and run for a second then just dies. Then the security light starts to blink and wont allow me to do anything. I have blown compressed air into the keyhole, cleaned it out with a Q-tip andmany other things which in a bind have always gotten it started however it has been very annoying. anyone else had this problem. can it be bypassed? any help appreciated
