Default engine swap

Hi all,
I need a new engine for my 2000 2.0 Jetta. I found one from an 88 1.8 16v golf.

Will it fit?
Are there other compatible engines I could use?

No and to swap engines is a very big and expensive undertaking. You'd need a new trans and axles a new ecu and all kinds of stuff. It would cost so much you may as well buy a new car.

it's a lot of time and money to pull an engine and do any amount of work on it if you don't have a lift and all the tools and experience. the most costly is time.. my bf pulled his engine and rebuilt it and any time he came across something he didn't know he needed to have, it was an extra week here and there and pretty soon months had gone by..
make sure you do all the research or, like the other guy said, you might be better off just buying a new car
