emissions light-advice???
I have a 2000 jetta vr6 5speed. I had problems with the check emissions light being on for a while. i brought it to the dealership and they changed the camshaft and the light stayed on so they did a comparative discharge which worked for a while but recently the light came back on. when i brought it back they took apart the transmission and supposedly cleaned it out...again...worked for a while but the light is back...im hesitant to bring it back to the dealer because they'll just screw me over and charge more to do **** it doesnt need...any advice??
I dont see how emissions would affect ANY of those things you had replaced!
When I think of Emissions I think of .. oxygen sensors. .and other emissions equipment.... not transmissions.OR camshafts!! (That must have been costly!!!)
Don't take it back to the dealer. They are obviously having a grand time charging you for all those things.
Try replacing your oxygen sensor

i know that they replaced the camshaft with good reason because the 6th cylinder was misfiring because of a worn down cam but they also said that it would fix the emission problem...clearly they were wrong. Then it started doing the wierdest thing...i would drive it and then the gas pedal stopped working and made the car undriveable...thats when they came up with cleaning out the transmission and engine...in total all of this costed almost $2000...a little under half of what i paid for the car! thanks for the oxygen sensor idea ill try it and hopefully be done with my problems...i'll also be needing a new clutch because this one has 123,000 miles on it and is definitely worn out.
