Default Dust in gauges!

I have a 2005 Jetta GLI and am having problems with dust getting into the gauges through the tripometer/clock adjustment peg holes. The dust seems to settle to the bottom of the gauges and it continues to grow. Looks like crap .

Anyone know A. why and how this is happening since no one else I know with Jettas have this problem and B. how can I get rid of the dust.

Here's a reference to what the gauges look like: http://creativeion.com/rey/vw/boost_...tall_03_sm.jpg

Thanks!
