Default Dampening the extension of MK4 cupholder

I just bought a used dashboard cupholder. $20. Not bad. One thing I don't like is that when you push the door to release the thing, it flies out like it is going to break the stop.

Is there anything I can put on the slide/tracks to slow it down? I know someone here is going to suggest Coca-Cola...not going to do it. Some kind of heavy grease is what I'm thinking.

You don't want to use a heavy grease or it won't open on cold days.
