Default Considering an 04 Jetta GLS

I'm considering purchasing an 04 GLS with 31,000 miles. This will be the first VW that I've ever owned and I'm interested in some feedback on this vehicle. Is there anything that I should look for? Are there any surprises with these vehicles?

Any and all help is appreciated.

i have the same car, i have had some issues with an over heating engine, its the water pump, a sencor or a coolaint fan. Also when changing the oil ask if they put synthedic in it, if you wanna spend little more money its a good idea to put an over sized oil filter on so you engine wont build up with sludge. I change my oil every 3,000 even though they say 5,000

Thanks for the information. I went ahead and bought the car and the wife and kids (who drive it all the time) love it. I also used your suggestion and went with synthetic oil, with the oversized filter. Thanks again for your info.

also if the coolent temp sensor goes out (like mine did at like 33,000) make sure the engine is compleatly cool before you do it and be careful with the plastic retaing clip (or youll get sprayed with coolant and break the clip, like i did) but its a cheap part and easy to change
