Default check engine light

My daughters 1995 jetta 1.8 engine has a check engine light. It is an OB1 and I only have a code reader and software to read OB2 any ideas how I can get the code read for free? Autozone told me they only do OB2....Problem is, after reset (pull battery term off) the car runs great for about 15 min, then the light comes on, and idles rough, runs poorly...any ideas? As I read up on this, I discover each manufacturer has a different method for reading OB1 codes, some have flashing dash lights, some have LED's on the ECU. Does anyone know how to read a 1995 Jetta OB1 code??

Default RE: check engine light

Only thing off hand is dealership, or an auto shop that deals in foreign cars.
