I planning to purchase a new 2008 model but can't decide between a Honda Civic EX trimmed like an Si or the Jetta TDI, which will be available for 2008. The Jetta looks way better than the Civic. From whatI've read, it's also just a great fun car to drive.Some people have said the Civic feels like a mini van (new huge windsheild).

I'm concerned about the historical high maintenance of German vehicles. If the Jetta is going to keep me at the dealership for this and that, which never goes away, I can do without it. I know they had lots of problems with the eletrical system, engine light staying on and a number of other things. Have the newer TDI models gotten any better?

Volkswagen also has a great first time buyer program - 2.9% financing.

Can anyone comment on the relability of the later model Jetta TDIs? Perhaps specifically how it compares to a Civic?
