Cannot adjust treble with stock radio/CD

Cannot adjust treble with stock radio/CD
I can for AM radio but not for FM nor the CD player. When I press the treble button it give a weird display such as "T +D" or "T +E".
Any ideas?
I recently disconnected my battery. Would that be the culprit (seems unlikely)?
