Default buying a used jetta...sounds great but....???

I am looking at a 2002 GLS/GLX VR6 2.8 (seller not sure if GLX or GLS - how do i tell?)

only 64K plus miles (but for some reason seller says 66K) ... color is light gray/silver.

car barely driven last 3 years... but always inspected at the same place... but 20 miles away from seller and seller works 5 miles from home ..(it's a kwik lube ???)

anyways..... interior is almost mint- leather/loaded... exterior/motor/brakes/shocks/etc passes the fsuguy check.... carfax checks out ok....

HOWEVER, the hood seams aren't smooth... passenger headlamp replaced... looks like a small gap between front bumper/fenders.... so i am pretty sure it's been wrecked...

and the roof has been painted... obvious overspray on black trim with tape off marks.... and the roof is chipping... any ideas as to why roof would need repairing? how much to paint ???

dude wants $6K.... what do you VW experts think... i'm thinking $5500, and i think that's high because i might have to repaint....

i appreciate your advice and opinions....

well,i don't trust the used vehicles.actually, you didn't know clear where is good or not.
you know the mileage can be changed and also some other places.
so i can not believe them...
however,it is up to you..

I would walk away.
I don't mind being told what a car needs when I am buying, but I won't buy from people who are not upfront with the history of the car.
You sound very critical of the car and if you are not comfertable with it then find another one.
Without looking at the car in person, it is hard to give any sound advice about the condition.
Good luck.

edit-I forgot to say that I am not an expert, just been around cars (mainly vws, land cruisers, and toyotas) for a very long time.

Stay away from repainted cars, period.

Better to get a car with a bit of faded paint that you can trust, than a car that has been brought back from the dead and has who-knows-what kind of hidden problems.
