Default Brake light switch

I followed the helms manual on changing the brake light switch, but found that the brake lights now don't come on until the pedal is depressed farther than usual, it's a bit un-nerving around town.

Is there a special trick? I've gone through two with the same result.....

Thanks

I posted an item like this not too long ago, depending on what year/model your car is, it may be a recall, like mine. The dealership fixed it for free, and mine's a 2000. Any way you can adjust the switch??
