Default automatic tranmission problem

i got a 99 jetta gls form the aution, has a 2.0 engine. when i first took it out for a spin the gears shifted hard and it jerked when i put in drive or reverse. so i knew it had to to be the fluid. so i drained it. it was black. so i fulled it up with. but still has the same problem. then i filled it up with some more because it was low. it drives better but the fluid is dark red. and suggestings

what kind of transmission fluid did you use? You might have to flush your tranny for a bit, whoever had the car prolly didn't take care of it.
