Hey everyone. looking at buying a 2014 Jetta SE 1.8 turbo for my sister. Just curious about the reliability of this particular model. I had a mechanic tell me he wouldn't wish a Volkswagen on his worst enemy. He says it is the most common car he works on, and they all have very common electrical issues. Is there any truth to this claim? Or has he just unfortunately coincidently seen a high number of mechanical issues with Jettas?

 

hmmm seeing most of these cars still under warranty and goin to dealer for repair, leads me to believe his story not factual, if he sees these cars alot must be high mileage poorly maintained cars

 

I have 18k miles on my 2014 Jetta SE 1.8T. Its already blown 2 rear main seals, so it's on its 3rd now. Yes it's covered by warranty and unusual to happen twice, but don't be surprised if yours leaks after the powertrain warranty ends at 60k miles and before 100k...and it's about a $1,400 repair. I tend to like to drive cars until they die (my 1998 Maxima has 243k miles on it still) but in this case I may decide to trade the Jetta after the warranty expires.

Other than that it drives great, good quality audio, comfortable car
