Default aftermarket radio issues?

I have a 98 Jetta- Wolfsburg Edition, old body style. 93000 miles. The 6-cd changer in the trunk broke, and I'm considering getting an aftermarket radio installed by Best Buy. However, I've read that there are some issues with diagnostic tests when an aftermarket stereo is involved. Does anyone have advice on this topic? Should I go for the aftermarket or should I shell out more money for a new factory cd changer?

Thanks,
Emily

I've never heard of an aftermarket radio interfering with diagnostic tests. If you decide you want to get a factory 6 CD changer, I have from from a '98 Wolfsburg if you would be interested in it.

Let me know and maybe we can work something out.

I haven't quite made up my mind about which way I'm going to go. Is the cd changer installation pretty simple?
How much do you want to sell it for?

Yes after market radios can cause a problem with Vag-com and or using a OBDII scanner so be careful. This can occur even if you use the factory connectors and a stereo cable adapter. I have even blown an after market Vag-Com adapter reader because of this. Read about it here: http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/aftermarket-radio.html
