The car is 98 jetta gls automatic tranny. The car has a 2-3 second stall before goingfrom park to driveand lurches forward. 3rd and 4th rev on forever rpm's going over 4000 to go into gear. If you take your foot off the gas it will go in pretty smooth took it to get a tranny tuneup at a place that specializes in vw's butthey made it a little worse. Please Help!!!

Sorry, I should have been more clear its the torque converter but, they charge about the same to replace the torque converter as they do to do both. If you can do it yourself then you could get away just replacing the converter.

Why not change the fluid and filter and put in some modifier in that will help your transmission with slipping (Lucas or another brand). You should be able to do that yourself, alot cheaper than 2500. A transmission guy told me that sometimes a transmission can get really dirty and if you drive down the road, and shove it into park, the park lock actually acts like a hammer and can get some of the dirt loose. But don't take my word for it.
