Default 96 Jetta with oil on the airfilter -blow by

Went to change the air filter and noticed oil on the airfilter.

It's a 96 VW jetta GLS 2.0L 170 000 KM. Would any know why there would be oil on the airfilter?

Thanks,

I have the same. Looks like it might be the PCV not working correctly. The PCV sits on top of the valve cover. With a grommet, they cost about $50. When I send in an order for some additional parts, I will replace mine then. I think it is causing some running problems also. Might be gumming up the Idle Air Control valve.
