Like most others, my 2006 Jetta made quite a bit of noise at startup (air pump, lifters, whatever...). I notice now that when starting, it is no longer rev'ing above 1000 rpm and the noise is gone. As nice as this may sound, I don't think this is right in that the startup idle speed is too low and I get a distinctive fuel smell from the exhaust. Other than that, the car is running fine. Any idea what's happening? Computer? Air pump? The car is still under warranty but I like to "pre-diagnosis" issues prior to dealing with my dealer whenever I can.
