Default 2004 Jetta Clutch issue?

Okay so I recently bought a 2004 VW Jetta 5 speed with a 2.0 engine. I think they clutch may need adjustment or to be replaced. Sometimes when im going into 2nd or 3rd gear and im accelerating a little hard, or going up hill, Its fully engaged in 2nd or 3rd and im on the gas and the RPM's go up and then go down about 1,000 rpm (which feels like the clutch is slipping) until it "catches" and then it begins to accelerate normally. Its kind of hard to explain, but it feels like an automatic when the transmission is going out. Like its still accelerating a little bit when its slipping but not fully at the RPM the engine is at.Im kind of pissed about it because I didn't notice it before I bought it. I bought it from a private party so there is no warranty period. It was raining cats and dogs when I test drove it so I could not really get on the gas to hard.

As far as I know, VW doesn't have adjusting cables. Vw has self-adjusting cables...so dunno if oyu could acutally adjust anything or not.
