Default 2003 Jetta tail shaft issue?

I have a jetta with the 5 speed manual trans I went around the corner downshifted into 2nd gave it gas and nothing! No noise no grinding no nothing! If you put it in gear and let out on clutch the speedometer will read like you are moving and gain speed as you go through gears but no power to wheels? WHY? Please help!

If the speedo goes up but still no drive then its a driveshaft problem.

Post moved to the correct section.

I just jacked up the passenger side front wheel, started car and put in 1st gear let out on clutch and wheel started spinning I could stop the wheel with a little pressure against it and when you press in on clutch wheel stops. This is a clutch issue and not a tranny problem, Am I correct?????

Well its funny as the drive has stopped unless the clutch plate is that worn out but you would have noticed something while moving off where the clutch bites or any slip.

So if you look underneath do the inner and outer CV's turn while its jacked up while driving in gear?

Yes the cv shafts are turning and are not broken at the knuckles. The car has 154,000 miles and I know the clutch wasn't replaced by the previous owner who bought it with 97,000 miles. I'm thinking this is the original clutch. This car is my sons and he had to learn how to drive a 5 speed on it. We only had the car for 6 days before this happened. My son picked up on driving the 5 speed way faster than most would have, so I don't think he glazed over the clutch plate by riding the clutch. And it happened all of a sudden when he was screwing around like a normal teen he came around the corner in 2nd and shifted into 3rd and when he let out on clutch the motor reved up and had no power to the wheels. I really appreciated your feedback! Thanks!!!!

The fact that you say the speedometer reads when you let the clutch out still says its getting no drive to the drive shafts, so it needs more investigation.
