Quite conflicted as to whether I should repair or unload this car

Facts:
- first VW
- Bought New
- Regular maintenance
- in/out side in good condition
- 126K miles
- automatic
- still driving, but rough

Quote to put a transmission in is $5000. Also needs after-run pump, valve cover seals, and new tires. I don't know enough about the longevity of VWs to know if it's worth it. If it was my Volvo, I'd do it. Please weigh in.
