Question 2002 2.0L check engine light??

Hello, Im new here I just got a 2002 Jetta with a 2.0l automatic about a week ago and the check engine light came on so I took it to autozone to get the code read and it is a P1296, so I replaced the engine coolant temperature sensor and seal and the motor won't warm up to 190 and the check engine light is still on, any info would help a ton, thanks

Have you checked, if you got more codes?? Your thermostat, might be getting stuck. Have you replaced it before??
