Default 2001 Wolfsburg Door Lock Issues

I have a 2001 Wolfsburg and the door locks have major issues. The dealer wanted $1500.00 toreplace the Alarm andLockingSystemand well, not in the budget. Are the any suggestions for fixing this? Is this a common problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah that would have been helpful. Sorry

- Remote door lock works 50% of the time.
- Using the key to lock the car does does not allow you to lock all four doors and set the alarm. Again, this is not an all the time problem.
- Light does not come anymore when you open the door or when you unlock it with the remote.
- The alarm occasionally sets itself on it's own.

I have a 2002 Jetta TDI with a similar issue. The remote will open the driver's door and trunk but not the passenger or rear doors. The symptom does not change with the second remote. I am able to open all the doors using the button on the inside of the driver's door. The problem surfaced after the car battery discharged due to inactivity. I have charged it and driven it then the radio failed. Removing and replacing the fuse (#45) resolved the radio issue but the door lock problem still remains.

Any suggestions?
