Default 2000 Jetta start issue

Have a 2000 jetta 2.0l automatic. When it's cold and you 1st start the car it will stall right away, you may have to start it uo to 7 or 8 times then it will stay started some times only 2 or 3. If it warms up for a few minutes there are no issues. If you get it to start and try and drive right away the car will take a few seconds before the tranny engages. Once the car is warm there is no issue. If it sits for a few hours no issues once it sits for about 8 hours or so the issue is there again. It is worse when it is cold out like -10C.

Do you have a check engine light on? Any other warning / dash lights on? The stalling and the tranny not engaging sounds like two different issues, but then again it may be one issue which maybe the torque converter I'm wildly guessing? As far as I know, that (part) keeps the car from stalling in automatic cars.

Try to call the dealer and see if they'll diagnose it over the phone for free. Worth a shot..

No codes or lights on. Again it only happens when it has sat for a long period of time and worse when its cold. If the car is started in N it works much better. When started in P the RMP's are very low the 1st time you try and start it. If you give it a little gas once you start it it seems to work better but you need to do that for about a minute or just less. It almost seems like a vacume leak but it isn't.
