It is a 1994 so it does not have OBDII. I have OBDII code reader but this car doesn't even have that system.
All I can says is VCDS is supposed to work on all VAG vehicles from 1994 on.

VCDS Compatibility Charts

So you have no EOBD DLC socket on your motor, have you searched under the dash and in the centre console?

Default 1999.5 Jetta Code P0112 IAT

Hello All, I have a 99 Mk4 with 145,000 miles on it. Purchased in October due to son totalling his wrangler, and he needed a car and wanted 5sp. its seems like good car, but the CEL light came on a week after purchase, before taking to NJ state inspection.
It was throwing multiple codes, 1128, 0112, 0411. I bought a MAF off ebay, and replaced the connector for same since it was cracked and the PINS did not line up. Now all that remains is the P0112 IAT code, is this part or the MAF? Thanks

Thoses codes aren't really full codes what did you use to scan your vehicle?

VAG Error Code: 16496
EOBD II Error Code: P0112

Fault Location:
Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor (G42) - Low Input

Possible Cause:
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)(K83) Triggered on first occurrence.

Engine control module (ECM).

Here's the thing. The engine light doesn't light up (lights up when you first start the car so I know it works). But it doesn't light up when running so there are no codes to be scanned off it.

Changed the spark plugs and oil and it seemed to be fixed. No such luck. Person that drives the car said it stalls out and then won't restart. Leave it sit for a while (sometimes 5-10 mins, sometimes longer) and then it will start again.

Motor turns over fine when it dies but it won't start.

I drove the car today for 45 minutes. I was driving constantly through the city. No long periods of idling. My observations.

1.) Air bag light is on is this supposed to be on? (owner said it pops on and off sometimes)

2.) I had heat within 5-10 minutes of starting the car (20 degrees outside). But according to temp gauge car not warming up. I had to drive the car for about 20-25 minutes before the temp gauge even moved. After about 30-35 minutes, the gauge got to about 160-165* and would not go any higher.
Is this normal? All my other cars run about about 195*

3.) Only one time when I revved motor a little too much shifting gear, (engine was at about 2500rpm, alarm goes off inside car, and oil light was blinking on and off). Pulled over turned it off, start it back up and it was fine.
Usually try to shift at 2,000 rpm. If you use too much more revs then the oil light wants to come on.

BTW, does the oil light mean LOW OIL or LOW OIL Pressure. I'm thinking its low oil because the higher revs suck all the oil out of the pan?? Is this something to worry about. But 2500 rpms doesnt really seem like all that much to me??

4.) Finally got the car home, left it in neutral at idle get out open the hood and about 3 seconds later it kills. Started right back up and seemed to idle ok.

Any thoughts? Don't really know where to go with this because its not even throwing an engine code?

Im wondering if there is some electrical problem?

Also, I am using 10W30 oil is this good for my car. Was thinking of 10W40 or 20W50 because the engine has such high mileage and I THINK it is burning oil, have yet to confirm this. But 10W30 was all I had on hand and its cold in winter Wisconsin.
