Default 1996 VW Mileage

Hello everyone. I am new here. I have had a 1996 VW Jetta for the last five years and I absolutely adore the car. It was my first car and it still seems to be in great running condition. Since I have purchased the car, I have had several items break on me (timing belt, gaskets, ignition, etc.). The car currently has 167,000 miles on it. I have always heard VWs are great with high mileage and that is not uncommon for them to last for hundreds of thousands of miles.

Does anyone else have a VW with high miles on it? How are you making out? How long does the average VW last before serious, serious problems?

i dont know a WHOLE lot about VW's yet but i do have a 1998 jetta gls with a 2.0 and it has 195+ clocked. and it still runs pretty dang well. i do believe with regular PM and a little TLC a VW can run A LONG LONG TIME!!

Good to know dfwjetta98. If that is the same car in your avatar, it looks very similar to my 1996.

Anybody else have any feedback?

I took that picture the day I drove my new car home. Since I have. Put a really nice coat of carnuba (best wax I'v ever used). From what I'v seen online I think 96 to 98 are pretty much the same car. What kind of PM have u done to urs?

hmmm...i so posted on this thread yesterday and its long gone...wtf?!

as long as you keep up on maintenance and routine oil changes your car will last as long as you want or need it to. for being as old of a car as it is...you dont really have that much on mileage. i have an 01 with 130+...my old 95 had just about 200 and was still running strong. they are good cars if you baby them )
