I have an irritating problem - when coasting my 1996 Jetta GLS manual five speed through a left turn, I am unable to move the gear selector into second gear. Drivers behind me start honking, but by that time I've slowed down enough that I use first gear instead to pull out of the turn.

Any ideas?

It's the 2.0 engine, if that matters.
